Compare the DOOM: The Dark Ages 4LP vinyl set with standard game soundtracks. See why this deluxe package stands out and who it's best for.
Quick answer
If you want the complete score in one deluxe package with art that reflects the game's world, the DOOM: The Dark Ages 4LP set is a clear upgrade over standard single-disc game soundtracks. But if you only need a few key tracks or prefer a smaller format, a standard release may suit you better.
What makes this vinyl set different
Most game soundtracks on vinyl come as a single LP or a 2LP set that omits many tracks. The DOOM: The Dark Ages Original Soundtrack 4LP (Bethesda Gear Exclusive) packs the entire score across four records, so you get the full dark fantasy soundscape without cuts. The packaging and design work are also custom-made to reflect the game's aesthetic, which is rare for standard releases.
Trade-offs to consider
A 4LP set takes up more shelf space and costs more than a typical single-disc soundtrack. If you're not a dedicated collector or only want a few standout tracks, the higher price and larger format may not be worth it. Standard soundtracks are often cheaper and easier to store, but they usually sacrifice track count and packaging detail.
Key trade-offs at a glance
- Track completeness: The 4LP set includes the full score. Standard soundtracks often omit less popular or ambient tracks to fit on fewer discs.
- Packaging and design: The Bethesda Gear Exclusive vinyl uses custom art and packaging tied to the game. Standard releases typically use generic or minimal sleeve art.
- Price and space: 4LP sets cost more and take up more room. A standard single LP is cheaper and easier to store but offers less content and visual appeal. If budget or shelf space is tight, a standard soundtrack may be the practical choice.
